Event Details

Get ready for the 2024 Great Oxford Sunflower Contest. The library will be giving away packets of Giant Grey Stripped Sunflower Seeds during the month of May, while supplies last to help you prepare for the 3rd Annual Sunflower Contest that will be in early September! Fun and prizes for the tallest and biggest flower! Dare to grow it!!!!!!

The Rules:

1. Sunflowers must be home-grown by the entrant or by an

  immediate family member, all ages eligible.

2. Any variety of sunflower is eligible for entry.

3. Limit one entry per person per category.

4. Sunflower entries must be brought to the Oxford Public Library 

  judging area in the Powell Lake Twp. Park Pavilion next door to .

5. Participants may be asked to be photographed for publicity. 

6. Largest Head will be measured at the diameter of the seed head.

  The petals will not be measured. The measurement will be taken

  across the head containing the sunflower seeds. Heads should be

  cut from the stem.

7. Tallest Stem will be measured from the stem closest to the root

  to the base of the head. Either pull the plant from the ground, 

  remove the soil and bring to the fair, or cut off just below the

  soil line. In the event stalks have been cut, they will be measured

  from the cut end. Sunflowers will be laid horizontally and

  measured.
