Explore Michigan in the Civil War and Oakland County Underground Railroad—two traveling exhibitions on view in our Atrium NOW through March.
As the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of its founding in 1776, communities are reflecting on the moments that shaped our shared past. Michigan played a vital role during the Civil War and in the fight for freedom along the Underground Railroad, these powerful exhibits bring those stories to life.
By hosting these exhibitions, Oxford Public Library continues its commitment to preserving local history and connecting past generations with future ones. Visit with the whole family and experience Michigan’s legacy firsthand!
This winter, you can also enjoy special Civil War–themed programs and book displays as part of our America 250 celebration.
America 250: Our History in Artifacts & Story is comprised of three individual exhibitions:
- Michigan in the Civil War (on loan from the Detroit Historical Society & Museum)
- Oakland County Underground Railroad (on loan from the Birmingham Museum)
- Oxford's Contributions to the War (on loan from the Northeast Oakland Historical Society & Museum)
